I didn't think this post-a-day would be this hard and it's not even a week in..

Not much to say, other than the fact I picked up a blue PS3 controller and (finally) a copy of LittleBigPlanet! Played a little bit with the level creator, seems like a lot of fun.

It does bother me though that buying all the DLC costs more than the game, possible more than double now!!

On account of not having much better to do, decided to go see this movie for a bit of a laugh yesterday at Jam Factory.

I was a little concerned when they said that the air-con wasn't functioning properly and were discounting the tickets (I paid $12 for an adult ticket), but it seemed fine by the time we got in the movie.

As for the movie itself, it was okay. They sing, meet girl chipmunks called the Chipettes, they sing some more, cause chaos wherever they go.. pretty much what you'd expect and not much more.

If the movie was cut down to just the musical numbers, it would have been awesome (and less than 15 minutes long!)

Today was another fine example of the sheer brilliance of Connex. Working night shift for 11 hours is bad enough, getting to the train station and finding out your train is cancelled and you have to wait another half an hour is less than pleasant. Add to that the train was held up at Dandenong which added another 10 minutes to an already 55-minute trip!

On the way back into work earlier this afternoon my train was only delayed 5 minutes.. I guess Connex are improving! ;-)

Still.. No matter how bad it gets, still a lot better than CityRail ever was!!

Super Paper Mario (Wii)

Fun platformer/RPG hybrid with a good 20-odd hours of gameplay. The game is a little talky (there is a heap of text to read but even that is mostly funny), but that doesn't detract from the gameplay very much. The game starts easy enough, and I found the last chapter to be reasonably tough even with a fairly high levelled team. 4/5

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS)

Direct sequel to the 2003 GameCube's The Wind Waker, this game is controlled entirely using the touch screen. The top screen serves primarily as your map, and occasionally is used as a second screen for boss battles. The game isn't overly long or challenging, but is great fun and has some genuinely funny moments. Well worth the purchase. 4.5/5

10 minutes with Wii (Oh, and 30 days to go!!)

Today I got my hands on the Wii remote for the first time, now just 30 days from launch, and I have to say I liked it! I got the chance to play through the temple demo in The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (available on launch), and a level of ExciteTruck (out next February).

The Twilight Princess demo, of which I got to spend 5 minutes with, was a good preview as to what can be done with the Wii Remote / Nunchuck combination. Movement is controlled by the analogue stick on the nunchuck. Lock-on (like every Zelda game since Ocarina of Time) with the Z-button on the nunchuck. Your sword can be drawn with a simple flick of the controller, and you can even slash the sword while running, which is a nice feature!

The Bow is also pretty intuitive once you get the hang of it.. You just hold down the B-trigger (on the remote), then pull back and release the B-trigger... It almost feels like the real thing (I assume!). The Boomerang is operated in similar fashion... Press B to ready the boomerang.. then select up to 5 targets with the Z-trigger and moving around the Wii remote for aim.. then press B again to hit all of the tragets. The demo had a puzzle which required hitting 5 targets at once to open a door which was a good example of this.

ExciteTruck was completely different control-wise... You simlply tilted the Wii remote to steer (the nunchuck isn't used), and hold 2 to accelerate, and perss the + pad to boost... you can also move the remote around to balance your truck. I wasn't very good, but managed 2nd in the demo :)

Old Job / New Job

Today was my last day working as a slave to the Telstra system. It was an extremely busy day with the launch of the new Next G (3GSM 850MHz) Network... Something we only found out about after we had already stated work!! I guess something like the launch of a whole new network was on a need to know basis and Telstra's own staff... didn't need to know?!

Of course not everything went Old King Sol's way, part way through the planned 6-hour marathon briefing on the state of Telstra, things quite literally got a little soggy..!

Of course, on Monday starts the next chapter of my professional career (don't laugh.. yet!) as I move on to begin working at Jumba, which I am both excited an nervous about at the same time! You can be assured that there will be many more updates on here from now on. (As if a post every month or so wasn't enough already!)

After the delay of the PS3 into next year, I was starting to wonder if Nintendo might do the same thing with Wii... But we can all be thankful, because the Wii will be launching in Australia on December 7th for the princely sum of $399.95 - a full $250 less than the (complete) Xbox 360, and a whopping $600 less than the PS3!

The just under $400 will buy you the console with all the usual cables, one controller (I was hoping for at least two!), and a free copy of Wii Sports, which looks like it'll be a whole lot of fun :-)

Nintendo are also hoping to have around 20 games availible before the end of the year including my personal favorite The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (also being released for GameCube), so there will be plenty to choose from this December.

Let the countdown begin!

Nintendo have revealed the controller design for the Nintendo Revolution at the Tokyo Game Show earlier today and Nintendo sure delivered when they promised something different!

How this will "revolutionise" gaming is yet to be seen, but at least Nintendo are truly offering something unique and quite possibly a lot of fun!
